In 2021, Rio Tinto Iron Ore (RTIO) engaged HATS to complete a portfolio risk assessment (PRA) for their tailings and water storage facilities in the Pilbara region of Western Australia as part RTIO’s progress towards GISTM compliance...
We partnered with Gold Fields to enhance their tailings risk management by developing a comprehensive Tailings Dam Risk Assessment and Control Guideline. The guideline provided holistic guidance on risk analysis, risk assessment and risk management and integrated current practice in risk assessment for dams with Gold Fields’ wider existing risk practices. This provided Gold Fields with a robust and defensible framework for managing their tailings dams’ risk.
In 2022, HATS was engaged to assist another consultant with carrying out a Comprehensive Surveillance Review (CSR) for an extreme consequence category water supply dam in the southwest region of Western Australia. HATS completed visual inspections of the dam and appertunant structures, and completed a facility risk assessment, utilising HATS' licenced RAMP software.
HATS, with assistance from other consultants, was engaged by an international organisation to review a global tailings governance, management and technical guidance document. The aim of the guide was to assist owners with understanding and meeting the requirements set out in the Global Industry Standard on Tailings Management. The review identified differences and alignment opportunities with other established guidance documents, standards and regulatory requirements around the world.
